This chapter contains some of the most basic and difficult lessons that we, as God's children, can and must learn:
God calls us to give everything we have to God -- and we must obey.
When God requires something of us, he also blesses us.
When we trust him, God will provide for every need we have. He is "The Lord Who Provides."
God's love for us is so immeasurably great, that he would sacrifice his only Son for our sins.
Here we see an analogy or "type" of God offering His son Jesus for our sins.In verse 2 God tells Abraham to take his son, his only son, to the region of Moriah and sacrifice him there.
-
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
-
-
""And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love" (Matthew 3:17; 17:5).
-
Golgotha was in the region of Moriah.
-
Verse 8 says "God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering." Jesus is designated several times as "the Lamb of God" (John 1:29, 36).
God has offered His son Jesus as a sacrifice for your sins. There is no requirement that you owe God anything. It is given to you as a free gift. This gift is given to you as forgiveness from sins that you have committed. And, this is the part a lot of people overlook, it frees you from the grip of sin on your life. You can now come to God freely. And as a son of God, you are now free from sin to live your life without the control that sin had over you. You are now free to walk in obedience to the word of God.
